IMO, the best* is merciless brutal destruction, and screams of incomprehensible agony. But that's (comparatively) easy to achive in textual fantasy, difficult in acted scenes (believable mercilessness and agony require very good acting ability), and morally bankrupt as non-fiction. So

* "Best" in this case meaning most stimulating, not in the moral sense.
