In the Canadian Armed ******, if a soldier refers to his rifle as a gun he is disciplined. For the first offense, just before taps, he has to go to all the barracks with his rifle in one hand. In front of all his fellow soldiers he must unzip, exposing his dong and say

"This is my Rifle" (holds up his rifle)
"This is my gun" (holds his penis with other hand)
"This is for fighting"
"This is for fun"

Which begs the obvious question. How do you discipline the female recruits? (I don't know, I was discharged before the ****** went co-ed)

Further offenses are punished in the classic army way-pushups.

P.S. I just saw a movie. The screen-writer must have been in the army and made that mistake more than once. He refers to a battleship's sixteen-inch rifles. That would mean shoulder weapons 16 inches long. Those 60 foot long tubes which fire 16 inch WIDE shells are only called one thing; guns.

P.P.S. you don't fire or shoot an arrow from a bow, you "loose" it

2. Hollywood screenwriters make mistakes all the time. Three examples could be considered: Chuck Norris in P.O.W. 1, P.O.W. 2 and P.O.W. 3.

3. As for the Makarov, yup, you've got it right. I was looking at guns one night and came upon a Russian pistol called the Makarov. I decided that would be a nice and anonymous name I could use on the internet.

Oh my god I hope its only a flesh wound!:cryingblu The projectile that did our cutponies in is called a "bolt":thumbup Also , same tradition in the Marines about calling your rifle a gun. I think the Canadians stole the idea from them as they were using that saying in the early forties.:D

Actually, I think it is originally British

I know they had that rule as far back as the Crimean War. It couldn't have been much earlier, whoever started it, as rifles weren't general issue untill that war. They were also the first to give rifles Girls' names. P.S. the standard British punishment for minor transgessions such as this isn't push-ups, it is running in place.

So do Female soldiers give their rifles Boy's names? Seriously, Does anyone know?

P.S. Up to an including the Crimean War usually only British Officers received Medals for Valour. Enlisted men who did something worthy of a Medal got money instead. For the highest valour it was a hundred and fifty pounds. Enough to retire comforably.
