Hello,

I went to see Casino Royale a few evenings ago. It had been hyped up quite a lot in the media and I thought that it made a good action film.

There was quite a long bb/torture scene in which the audience sees the seat being cut out of a chair and Bond being tied to it. The scene is in a cold, dark and metallic room, its quite gothic. He is then is hit in the balls (by a guy) several times with a piece of rope. His pain is very obvious and there is no obvious prospect of his survival. Its quite a shock in the context of the film (its only a 12 certificate too) and I would say the first time an extended piece of bb has been shown to so many. Its not sexual in any way but I doubt that it would have got through if it was a female with the rope!

So, will this add to bb becoming more mainstream?

I sort of expected something like this but it was slightly different from the book (like all movies are). I suspect that although this was the first of Ian Flemmings' books that this scene may have been one reason the moviemakers skipped over this book in the 60s.

Yes, I doubt this would have appeared in the sixties version - Though I do think I recall Peter Sellers looking around Le Chiffre's room somewhere and finding a chair with a hole in the bottom - but there was no intimation of it being a torture device, and it was passed over quickly (also an in-joke for those who had read the novel, I suppose).

BTW, in the book, Bond is hit with a carpet beater, not a knotted rope, but maybe not so many people know what a carpet beater looks like nowadays, and the makers thought it would look too S&M, so went for a supposedly more improvised rope.

I'll probably go to the film with my girlfriend or a female friend, so it will be interesting to see how they react;)

I think they made it a rope to make the camera angels more comfortable when trying to keep the genitals off-camera.
I saw the movie with the other half and the only thing she did was to say something like "oh god..." grab my shirt and press her face into my shoulder.
I ask you:
what the hell do I do? there's nothing to work with here! (girls...any ideas?)

i just remembered.. there was a movie; ANALYSE THIS . And there is a second of it : ANALYSE THAT. There was a scene in the second one (analyse that) where a gangster woman threatening a man and an other gangster (unfortunately a guy) squeeze our man's balls.. very hard.. he cant take breath and screams in agony helplessly.. That scene was very good. I have the full movie in divx format. i can cut that scene in it and take it here. but now, i dont have any time :( may be next weekend.. ;)

Well I dunno about going mainstream, but it led to the first conversation on bb between me and my gf. the best part was that she was the one that was so curious about the whole thing. so if i were to make an assessment of such a thing going mainstream, i'd say it'll act as sort of an icebreaker for those curious about bb, but i doubt anyone goes "oh man, that was hot, i'd never thought of that before."

The little metal thing they put in his arm was an implant.

As hot as I get watching or being busted by a cute woman, watching the Bond scene really shook me up. I'd hate to ever find myself in that situation.

Maybe. I don't really like guy-to-guy stuff.

I think any publicity on BB is good. Keeping BB in secret helps no one. Just think of the Bond movie as a good starting point to talk about ballbusting. :-) If the conversation goes wrong, you can still change to some of the action scenes as a topic.

Hello,

I think that the scene in the film was very dark and as it was men only, would make a good discussion point to bring up bb.

In the previous bond films any torturing has been done by a female if I recall, this would have made the rope/chair scene so much more sexual.

Imo, its still a little gross for the film to be a 12 certificate in the uk though and show an extended torture scene.

Some of us lads is Yanks, eh, and we don't rightly know wot the bloody 'ell you're on about:

Does "a 12 certificate" mean it's rated for age 12 and up? So it roughly corresponds to the Americans' PG-13 rating?

Regrettably, we live in a society which views sex and profanity as far worse things to depict than violence. If they snuck the scene by as being merely violent, and not sexual, then they'll show it to babes in their bleedin' diapers, they will. 'Ole world's gettin' pear-shaped, it is.

Yeah, it was the best Bond i've seen. (And i've seen them all) But the torture seen was pretty disturbing, although it wasnt as disturbing as when Bond flipped the Aston....

the Carpet beater is in the sixties film ( just watched it the other day ) it is stuck behind the chair which would explain why the Peter Sellers bond looked so worried.
I hear that there have been loads of complaints over the film classification as 12 certificate means kids will see it. Even with my interest in this site there is no way I would let kids see this. Imagine the embaressment having to explain it afterward.
Otherwise for adults the scene should be there as it is the only time bond ever really is defeated. Well exept for getting killed in from Russia with love. In the book Olga Clegg gets him with the poisoned shoe.
The casino scene is one that makes ya cross your legs without realising it lol

Olga's got two shoes, just give her a chance...

"OLGA! Kick him in the NUTS!"

There, he should be dead before the curtain opens on his next movie.
