why do threads vanish? (..and come back months later)

dear boardmates,
do you know why some threads vanished for several months and all of a sudden came back in full size?

i started the pic and clip thread(facesitting section), because the photo and the movie thread were lost..

now they are back..

anyway,

coz they move down the list, try looking back a page out two. When something new is added it goesback to the top of the first page again

I think they are stored and can be found if you do a search. There was a fire thread that went away but when I did a search I found it. Here is a picture after doing a search for "dick on fire"
