YouTube ordered to reveal its viewers

In case anyone might have missed this story, you might want to read about it. Judge ordered youtube to give up the records of what everyone has VIEWED, not just posted, VIEWED. It's the biggest violation of privacy by the government in US history in my opinion and sets a very bad precident that could be used in future cases to get viewer records. To include the IP address and login names of the viewers with what all they had viewed.

I couldn't even find the link on fox news for some reason. Which amazes me considering how big the future implications could be from this.

If anyone is aware of any petition sites or anything we can do on this please post the links.

Actually if you read the Judge's decision it is not as bad as it sounds. Viacom is just suing Youtube for doing the exact same things that Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire, eDonkey, and several others were accused of doing. I knew this was going to happen I just did not expect it to happen so soon.

Now that we talking about laws in the news how about the one where employee benefits are now being legally denied despite the fact that they were already agreed upon years in advance. That benefits story is discusting. I had a similair situation happen to me except I won out in court but is took 2 different law suits and I still got screwed to a degree in the end but didn't lose everything like this poor guy did. Amazing how in some cases it is illegal not to have insurance but we aren't afforded the same protection when we need to collect. Just wait until the next Pres. is elected and they install their version of medical insurance for everyone. Those of us who have insurance will have to pay for those who don't which will make it another tax on the working middle class. Insurance companies and oil companies, got to love em. The only ones who can make money hand over fist no matter what the economy is like.:cussing:

this is not correct based on the ruling. the ruling revolved around turning over specs in regard to total site activity, not individual account activity. everytime there is a story like this though, everyone starts freaking out thinking that their internet explorer history will be published on the front page, as if anyone really cares enough to do so. if you are really that worried, maybe consuming fetish material is unhealthy for you if it results in such incredible paranoia and guilt.

with regard to the benefits story, the guy didnt work the full day, so he wasnt eligible. i dont see what is so exciting about that. it isnt the company's job to make sure someone is eligible. wear your big boy pants and ask for a copy of your policy in writing, and bring it to an attorney. dont call the human resources 800 number, speak to some 19 year old kid working the phones, and make a conclusion based on what you hear.

and for the second story, ive never heard of anyone successfully suing for market losses during the interim of an inquiry. now that would be a story. "my variable investments declined, now im suing you." unreal.

Anyway this is a much more serious issue than you realize; however, you are right in thinking that the gathering of (perhaps personal) data from youtube does not really mean anything. I suspect the only thing that will come of this is that youtube will restrict user uploads to prevent copyright infringements.

The problem is that the American judicial system is structured so that one singular judge can overturn the will of the people. If there were to be a referendum on the November ballot, I grantee a vast plurality (probably more than 70%) would vote to let Google keep the IP addresses confidential. The problem is judges don't seem to care about the fact that the United States is a Constitutional Federal REPUBLIC! Until we fix that problem, we will continue to get these bullshit decisions.
