    If there are several free services that beat rapidshare it would be good if you could list them. Yes, rapidshare sucks, but that's pretty much the nature of "free" services. Face it- bandwidth and powerful enough servers to support thousands of uploaders and downloaders cost money. There is no such thing as a free lunch- at least for long. You may find an upstart free (advertising supported) site that you can rapidly upload and download from, but as soon as it becomes known- it's going to be run into the mud just like the free version of Rapidshare has been. The only way they can keep that from happening is to buy more bandwidth and faster / more servers and somebody's gotta pay for that. There's no magic here.

    Plus in today's world you can't trust a bunch of anonymous users to keep your file sharing service free of illegal stuff like child porn and copyrighted content, and there's gonna be somebody ready to sue your ass off or throw you in jail because of it. That means you need to hire content monitors to keep it from happening and lawyers to keep you out of jail after it does. That all costs money too.

    Well, as far as sendspace goes, from my experience file transfer rate is typically in the 20KB/Sec range. That's about 1/5 the speed of rapidshare (typically closer to 100KB/Sec) and nowhere near close to a typical pay site which can run as high as 600KB/Sec if you have the bandwidth on your end to receive that fast.

    Of course rapidshare keeps their speed up by limiting the number of users online at once during peak times. Sendspace doesn't seem to do that. I don't have any experience with megarotic and megashare but I suspect similar constraints apply.

    I have had a bit of experience with both megarotic and megashare as a downloader (but not as an uploader). Both of them move at a fairly good clip, at least as quickly as rapidshare, if not quicker. Honestly, I am not sure how they have been able to remain in business, given that they are free sites.

    As they were streaming to my computer, I just saved the incoming video. They were all converted into FLV files, but they do save that way.
