Very strange indeed. Usually nobody wants you to send money in the mail because of theft. Hopefully they will work it out. Let us know what you find out.
Sounds like a scam
You clearly don't understand the power of the religious right in America today (other countries too I'm sure, but this is where I live). There are videos that are absolutely legal to make own and watch but which you MAY NOT buy with a credit card or PayPal. Just as an example, anything involving bondage and pain together. Or bondage and sex. Or even stepping on snails or apparently ... real bull's balls. Yes- you can buy them with a credit card or PayPal some places, but only on the down low. If the credit card company or PayPal found out then they would freeze the sellers account "for investigation" taking his money, locking up his livelihood and shutting him out of business. Anybody remember the 6 or 8 months in early 2005 when Clips-4-Sale wasn't alive? Guess what- he had a few of the wrong videos on his site- not illegal, just immoral in the eyes of Visa and others. So they shut him down and held onto the money they owed him (which he owed to the site owners... who basically lost all of it). Same thing last year with Payso. Cali Mean Girls used to sell individual downloads through Payso (actually a Canadian company)- who accepted the credit cards for us. Visa shut them down. Boom, they were out of business overnight (taking a bunch of our money and others with them). Credit cards aren't magic pieces of plastic- they represent an agreement between the seller, the buyer, and a money lender to follow some certain rules. The money lender can make those rules as silly or draconian or 19th century as he likes.
So.. bottom line is that the Gizmo card is one vendor's way of getting past that. He can make his own rules and thereby allow you to see some videos you otherwise wouldn't be able to see. If he feels his own security is best served by only accepting cash in an envelope and holding deposits for 15 days before they are available, they are his rules to make. But don't blame him for not accepting your Visa card- it's a political/religious conundrum that he is simply trying to help out with.
